Let me see a virtual show of hands of how many people remember the band that wrote and sang the incredibly catchy and popular 2013 song, “Cool Kids,” I’ll link it down below if you’ve forgotten about this gem.
Flash forward to 2022, and my friend and I attended a for KING & COUNTRY concert from the floor directly next to the mixing booth. Sometimes, friends or family of the singers might be seated in the mix booth as a VIP section, so I always keep my eyes open when I’m by the booth to see if I can spot any celebrities.
I did spot this red headed girl who looked extremely familiar but I couldn’t remember who she was or why she looked familiar. During the concert, for KING & COUNTRY announced, before they sang their hit song, “God Only Knows” that Sydney Quiseng (whom they have featured on a remix of the song) from the band Echosmith was at the show tonight.
I immediately connected the dots and knew that was the lead singer of the band. I listened to them a lot in High School and thought they were one of the coolest bands out there (spoiler, they still totally are).
After the concert ended, I walked over to the mix booth and waved at Sydney. She waved and immediately came over and introduced herself. I asked for a picture, and she was so kind and posed for a picture. I could say the rest is history, but I will spare you the cliffhanger and go on to tell you just how amazing this band is.

Later that year, in November, a different friend and I attended Echosmith’s “Hang Around” Tour, where we purchased VIP tickets to meet the band for the concert (always buy the meet and greets!).
Even though they had a long line, they still took their time with everyone. I had told Sydney that we met at the for KING & COUNTRY concert, and she acted like she remembered. I wasn’t sure if she actually did remember me or if she didn’t want to be rude.

About a week after that concert, Sydney found an Instagram account my friend and I had at the time, where we posted about concerts we attended. She asked if she could repost one of our videos on the band’s page and then personally invited us to a holiday concert in Los Angeles.
Unfortunately, my friend couldn’t go, but there was no way I was missing a concert where I was invited directly by the lead singer. The first 50 people to arrive got wrist bands for a Meet and Greet with the band after the show and I was lucky enough to get one. When the band took the stage, Sydney immediately recognized me. She sang directly to me and pointed at me from the stage.
Once it was time for the meet and greet, as soon as it was my turn, Sydney came over and gave me a huge hug and said, “oh my gosh, it’s so nice to see you again!”
She remembered talking to my friend and me on Instagram, asking how my friend was, and remembered that it was our first concert of theirs. Noah was super stoked I brought my Ukulele for them to sign, and Graham is the sweetest! Sydney suggested we do a group hug photo and it’s my favorite photo with them.

I saw them for the third time at the very end of 2024. I again got meet and greets because I am a sucker for VIP packages. Sydney recognized me right off the bat. She said, “Hi Sammy, how are you?” and we talked about one of their new songs, Sour, which is one of my favorites by them.

During the show, during their performance of Over My Head, Sydney came directly over to me, knelt down, and grabbed my hand, singing the song to me. It was such a core memory! I wish I had my phone out recording, but it honestly makes it much more memorable.
The sweet interactions don’t stop here, though! The band is constantly liking and commenting on my posts of mine and answering their DMs.
If this is your first time hearing about the band, I’ve put my all-time favorite Echosmith songs down below, and if you’ve heard of them, this is your sign to buy tickets to their next tour or one of Sydney’s solo shows.
